Persian Empire Geography
Locations
One of the major capitals was in modern day Iran. This hands down is one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The empire stretches west to the central Mediterranean Sea, east to India, and from the Gulf of Oman in the south to Russia in the north. With mountainous country sides to fertile land, this empire extends to the African areas of Egypt and Libya to Macedon and Thrace, all the way to the Indus River in the east. There is rich farmland, meaning many materials such as copper, lead, gold, silver, and blue lapis lazuli are right at your finger tips. The main farm animals are geese, goat, and sheep. Crops include barley, dates, peas, lentil, and wheat. What more could one ask for? All over the empire there are different treasures to be found. Near the Tigris and Euphrates river, the land is extremely fertile and the trade is easy. Not to mention the Persian Gulf located in Western Asia. You've got an extension of the Indian Ocean in your backyard!
Expansion
Before the empire was created, it began with Aryan tribes migrating into modern Iran from the plains of southern Russia around 1400 BC. When the Median king attempted to reassert control over Persia around 550 BC, the Medain army revolted on the battlefield, handing over their king and surendering their capital at Ecbatana. Cyrus then conquered in quick succession the Lydians of Asia Minor. Persians then took over the Greek colonies on the Aegean coast, the Parthians, and the Hyrcanians to the north. The Persian army took over Thrace and Macedonia to cut off grain to the Greeks. The empire only continued to expand.
Climate
No matter where you choose to live or visit in the Persian empire, there can be a suitable climate for everyone. In the northwest, winters are cold with heavy snowfall and low temperatures during December and January. Spring and fall are relatively mild, while summers are dry and hot. In the south, summers are very warm, perfect for getting your sun tan on, and winters are mild. Perfect for any type of person!
