Persian Money
This is a Persian coin called a Daric named after
Darius and is made of 95% pure gold.
There was no forced labor in Persia. Darius paid his workers to work and build! This is a Daric coin that depicts a king with a bow and arrow. What other great empires leader paid their workers? Cyrus was a leader and a liberator for the Jews in his area.
Persian Agriculture
Land was poor for farming. Flock of sheep
The people of Persia had a very livestock and herding based economy. People would support themselves by herding sheep and goats as the soil was poor for growing. They had coined money and an official system of weights. Pretty high tech, right? The Persian leaders taxed 20% of all income which was helpful for both the people and the government.
Persian Trade
This is the Royal Road route. It connects Susa and Sadis together for trade.
The Persians traded with many people acrossw the Middle East. They learned other languages to increase their trade groups. Their most famous trade route is the Royal Road. It is 1600 miles long!! Imagine building that without machinery! Also, soldiers and mail travelled along this road and was used by farmers and horsemen. An inn was located every few miles for a place to rest. Merchants traded as well.
